Most important meal of the day

Most important meal of the day

Since you were a kid, your mother harped about the importance of breakfast, and she was right.  It is without a doubt the most important meal of the day. But it is even more important than Mom realized.

Skipping breakfast is the single largest determining factor of obesity in the world today.  That’s right. Most people skip breakfast thinking that by skipping calories they will lose weight. That’s very poor thinking.  Because your metabolism slows down when you don’t eat.  You feel lethargic.  And then, at lunch time, you end up pigging out and the result is you end up losing weight.

But the problem is that many people don’t have the time for breakfast.

So I am going to give you some ideas for how to make a quick, nutritious breakfast in under 5 minutes, and also how to order breakfast out without destroying your waistline…and in case you didn’t guess, those who eat breakfast on the go are twice as likely to be obese as those who eat breakfast at home!

So let’s start with a great recipe for breakfast at home.

Get a pack of Quaker Oats Weight Control Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal (the other varieties have too much sugar).  It packs 7g of fiber, plenty of protein and only 1g of sugar.

Add a tablespoon of peanut butter to it and microwave after adding about 2/3 cup of water.

Add to the oatmeal one handful of almonds and one handful of blueberries.

·         What you end up with is a breakfast that takes about 3 minutes to make and features…

·         Good protein

·         Good carbohydrate

·         Heart healthy fats

·         Antioxidants to ward off disease and free radicals

Copious amounts of fiber to fill your stomach so you don’t eat as much the rest of the day.

Like I said, the perfect breakfast. But what if you can’t do that, for whatever reason.  How do you order breakfast on the run without it all going to your love handles? If you are going to get fast food, get an Egg McMuffin from McDonalds (just one though).  It has 300 calories and plenty of protein.  Plus, they use Canadian ham so it isn’t bad for your waistline.  And if you do to a deli, make sure to get egg whites as opposed to a whole egg on a whole wheat roll, fat free cheese, and get the sandwich with turkey or turkey sausage as opposed to bacon.

These tips will allow you to get a good nutritious breakfast in that will be the foundation of a day of healthy eating.
